Department purpose

Allen & Overy's Global Antitrust Group comprises over 120 specialist antitrust lawyers located in over 20 countries in Europe, the U.S., Asia Pacific and Africa. The Group includes many leading practitioners and its industry specialist teams advise a wide range of high-profile international clients. We advise across sectors, with a particular emphasis on communications, media, technology, life sciences, energy and infrastructure, and financial services.

Role purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a high-performing global practice. Your role will be to work with the other Antitrust Support Lawyers to provide the Group and its clients with up-to-date technical knowledge across the full range of antitrust areas. You will monitor the rapidly evolving global antitrust legal and regulatory landscape, mastering new developments and sharing/applying your insight quickly, confidently and accurately.

Legal knowledge

Knowledge of antitrust law and practice, with a significant EU-level focus, which can be used to prepare and update precedents and databases, answer queries, prepare and deliver training, and create internal and external briefings and guidance.

Principal areas of responsibility

  • Contribute to the maintenance of high-quality documentation to provide partners and associates with core precedents, guidance materials and databases.
  • Produce briefings to inform clients and colleagues about key developments in antitrust policy and practice. 
  • Participate in the design and delivery of training programmes to inform colleagues or clients about current law and legal/policy developments.
  • Support partners and associates as required in their client relationship development through preparing and/or identifying useful written, electronic and training materials.
  • As requested, research legal or client/market related material to provide colleagues with clear and authoritative analyses.
  • Contribute to agency/government consultation responses concerning proposals for new or amended rules/practice. 
  • Participate in important Group projects, including contributing to key thought leadership publications and inputting into new technology and other Group initiatives. 

Key requirements

  • Qualified and experienced lawyer with outstanding academic credentials and a strong technical knowledge of antitrust law, with a significant EU-level focus.
  • Strong communication (Business fluent English), presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface at all levels and to build and develop strong relationships.
  • Self-motivated approach, in particular with a strong desire and ability to continuously acquire, build upon and share knowledge.
  • Effective project management and organisational skills, with the ability to deal with competing priorities.
  • Collaborative, confident team player with the ability to develop and work in an intellectually rigorous environment.
  • A person of sound judgement, able to establish a high level of credibility in the organisation and act as a trusted advisor to partners and fee-earners of all levels.
